Privacy Policy
This policy describes how Satalite Finder and this website handle information. Contact the app developer through support@satellitetrack.app for privacy requests.
1. Location, camera, and device sensors
With your permission, the app uses your location to center maps, calculate observation opportunities, and show directions. You can choose an observation location manually. Observation calculations run on your device; weather requests send the selected observation latitude and longitude to Open-Meteo. Apple map, place search, and geocoding services may process search text, map areas, or coordinates to provide those features.
Camera access is used for the live AR view. The app does not capture or upload camera images. Motion and compass readings help align the sky view on your device. You can change location and camera permissions in iOS Settings.
Website features and local storage
The web tool stores favorites, observation notes and the selected location in your browser. Orbital data, satellite details and site assets are cached locally to avoid repeat downloads; clearing site data removes these records. The sky view does not access a camera or motion sensors. On first use, the website requests browser location permission. If granted, it applies your location to observing features; it can refresh an already-authorized location on later visits. You may decline and select a site manually. After a denied or failed first request, the website does not automatically repeat the prompt; use the location control to retry. Weather requests send the selected coordinates to Open-Meteo; map tiles are requested from OpenStreetMap and reveal the viewed map area and ordinary network metadata. The website calculates satellite positions and passes in your browser. Website and app favorites do not automatically synchronize. When API orbital data needs updating, the browser may retrieve public raw JSON from our configured GitHub mirror or CelesTrak and relay a newer copy to our API. Relay requests contain a random browser installation identifier, source, byte count, SHA-256 digest and, only when requested, the original public JSON. They do not contain observation coordinates, favorites or notes. Pending public payloads expire after 24 hours; retries use cooldowns and deduplication receipts.
2. Information stored on your device
Favorites, selected observation sites, saved events, observation records, reminder settings, preferences, cached orbital data, and feature-use counters are stored locally. Counters support in-app feature limits and review prompts. Event reminders use local notifications with your permission. Removing the app deletes its local app data; device backups may retain copies under your Apple settings.
3. Network requests and orbital data
The app requests public satellite and astronomy data from our Cloudflare-hosted API and providers including CelesTrak, GitHub-hosted Satvisor data, NASA JPL, and The Space Devs. Requests expose normal network information such as IP address, requested resource, time, and client metadata to the receiving provider.
To help refresh public orbital data, the app can relay public orbital JSON to our API. This process sends an installation-generated random client identifier, a data source, a content digest, and the public orbital payload. It does not include your observation location, camera images, or saved observations. The identifier supports validation and abuse prevention; it is not an advertising identifier.
Cloudflare processes network metadata and operational logs to deliver and protect the API and website. Operational records are retained as needed for service reliability, security, and troubleshooting, according to service settings and provider policies.
4. Purchases and support
Apple processes payments. The app uses StoreKit purchase and entitlement information to unlock paid features and restore purchases; we do not receive your full payment card details. If you contact support, we receive the email address, message, and attachments you choose to send and use them to respond and resolve your request. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
5. Sharing, tracking, and service providers
The current app does not include third-party advertising or behavioral analytics SDKs. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app advertising. This website does not set analytics or advertising cookies. Information is processed by the providers needed for the features described above, and may be disclosed when legally required or necessary to protect the service and users. Providers may process information in countries other than yours.
Provider information: Apple, Cloudflare, and Open-Meteo. External websites opened from the app apply their own privacy policies.
6. Your choices, retention, and updates
You can manage permissions and notifications in iOS Settings, change your selected location, delete saved items where supported, and remove local app data by deleting the app. Contact support@satellitetrack.app to request access, correction, or deletion of information you provided to us. Applicable privacy rights depend on your location; some records may need to be retained for legal or security reasons. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; a parent or guardian can contact us about information a child has submitted.
We use reasonable safeguards, but no system is completely secure. Material changes will be reflected in this page and its updated date.
