Menoetius: a twin, not a supporting character
Called a moon, it is only slightly smaller than its partner. Sometimes asking where both bodies orbit is more accurate than asking which orbits which.

Menoetius is usually introduced as Patroclus’s companion, but it is no tiny sidekick. Their similar sizes mean both strongly influence the motion. Naming one primary does not imply an overwhelming physical difference.
Why study both partners?
They share a similar environment. Comparing colors, crater patterns, and shapes can distinguish common origins from different impacts or surface evolution.

Does tidal locking mean no rotation?
No. Synchronous rotation matches spin with mutual orbital motion, potentially keeping the same sides facing. Two people circling face-to-face still turn their bodies. This system’s period is a little over four days, recording long-term gravitational interaction.
What does low density tell us?
The mutual orbit constrains total mass; volume then gives density. A low value might indicate ice or internal voids. One number cannot prove an all-ice interior, because different structures can produce similar measurements.
When will an illustration become a landscape?
Lucy plans to visit in 2033. Today’s cover is an aid to imagination, not confirmed topography. Close observations will turn a table entry into a surface whose history can be studied.
